I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I’ll be back for more of this comic. Even though the first arc is a mess–and this accelerated wrap-up issue, which plays more like a movie trailer than a comic book, isn’t really successful, Naifeh does do some serious damage control and potentially plugs a lot of leaks.

Somehow Naifeh avoided the train wreck he seemed to be heading toward. While an editor could have made Naifeh’s transitions much smoother, his handling of the big finish as well as the solid focus on characters saved his bacon. Not only did he manage to get his story back on track, he finished giving the reader a strong incentive to continue to the next series. While not fully successful, Nights gave promise towards stories to come, a promise that has escaped many modern comics today.
