Is this issue about Dino, the at risk youth trying to make a better life for himself and his daughter on the reservation, or is it about Red Crow’s regret? Or maybe just the arc is about regret… or maybe all of Scalped will just be about regret.
It’s hard to say; though Aaron tells the issue from Dino’s perspective, the scene with Red Crow resonates more than the rest of the issue. And the rest of the issue resonates a lot, with Dino’s intelligence making his life even more miserable.
Aaron doesn’t worry too much about tying this issue into the greater arc–though it may go further into the future than any other issue–instead it’s just a fantastic done-in-one.
Dino feels tangential to the major events of Scalped, but his action-less perspective makes the series feel more concrete.
Aaron and Guera do outstanding work.
