Aaron continues to use his cliffhanger resolutions to play with the reader. This issue, for example, mostly takes place–or entirely takes place–before the previous issue’s big “Laura Palmer” cliffhanger.
It’s a great issue to be sure, full of mood and character, but one can’t help but notice Aaron does whatever he can to insure the reader is back due to the cliffhanger. If Scalped were bad, that approach would make sense.
But Scalped is awesome so why isn’t Aaron confident the great comic storytelling will be enough?
How almost has to suspect he doesn’t trust his readers–or their continued purchasing. It’s a valid fear, but it insults all the readers who aren’t going to jump ship if the cliffhanger isn’t enough of a shock.
Every scene this issue’s fantastic. Aaron and Guera weave a complex issue even though it’s all done linearly.
Simply great work all around.
