Moench and Alcala continue their Conquest adaptation—with two chapters, taking up the entire issue—and the whole thing is a depressing affair.

Moench sticks to the movie script, waiting until the end of the second chapter to totally get rid of any hope. He doesn’t, therefore, dwell in the futility of the story. There’s some hope, which is important. Why read it if he isn’t maintaining any hope? Of course, the finale is rather hopeless.

Alcala does a great job with the art. This issue features a lot more dialogue scenes than the last and the art doesn’t dip at all in quality. Actually, instead of just doing snapshots, Alcala has to do full scenes… including what certain expressions connote for the wearer’s thoughts. He does really well with those.

It’d be nice if Moench got to do something original, but even just adapting, he does very good work.
